Answers to help you choose the right program for your situation

Which programme suits me?

Your background shapes where you begin. Healthcare professionals and science graduates enter directly into the Advanced Diploma Clinical Programme. If you are coming from outside a science background, the preclinical programme gives you the foundations you need before advancing into clinical training.

Can I apply without a science background?

Yes — and many of our students start exactly this way. The Preclinical Programme is designed for graduates without a science background, giving you the scientific and clinical foundations needed to progress into professional training with confidence.

What is the difference between Preclinical and Clinical?

The Preclinical Programme is the foundation stage. It is designed for students without a science background and covers anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry/ nutrition, botany/ pharmacognosy— everything needed to enter clinical training with confidence.

The Clinical Programme is the advanced professional stage, where you develop the diagnostic, prescribing, and clinical skills needed to practise as a herbalist. It is open to healthcare professionals, science graduates, and students who have successfully completed the Preclinical Pathway.

Can I study part-time?

Yes. ICTIM’s programmes are designed to be flexible and suitable for people balancing study with work, family, or existing professional commitments. The Preclinical Programme is self-paced, and the Clinical Programme is delivered in a format that supports working professionals.

What happens after Preclinical?

Once you successfully complete the Preclinical Programme and achieve the required standard in all subjects, you can progress into the Clinical Programme. This allows you to continue your training toward professional clinical practice in traditional and integrative medicine.

Are the courses accredited?

ICTIM’s professional courses are accredited by the Irish Institute of Medical Herbalists (IIMH). Graduates of the clinical training programme are eligible to apply for IIMH membership, supporting progression into professional practice.
